- About Us -

Daventry’s only independent bookshop is situated on the historic Sheaf Street. Named ‘Suddenly on Sheaf Street’ this is a bookshop and so much more. Suddenly offers two floors packed with more than 7000 books, plus a bright and spacious classroom dedicated to a wealth of crafting activities from crochet to scrapbooking.

Whether you’re a fan of fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature or specialist books including science fiction and crime or simply love exceptionally beautiful stationery - Suddenly on Sheaf Street has something for everyone.

Situated in a Grade II listed 16th century building thought to date back to 1575, Suddenly is worth a visit to admire the original exposed beams, carved oak staircase and elegant fireplaces. The surroundings, together with the expertly curated stock, make for an immersive environment for avid readers, crafters and events.

The building has had a rich history – originally the Knightley family’s townhouse, it was shown on the 1571 map of Daventry as belonging to Sir R. Knightley. Since the late 1800s, the building has been a furniture store, a radio and television shop, and a womenswear store, amongst other businesses.

In addition to the books and crafting classes, Suddenly on Sheaf Street hosts a wide range of clubs, talks and events featuring celebrity authors and expert crafters plus book clubs and creative writing sessions.

We're delighted to have been awarded the 'Newcomer of the Year' for 2024 by National Book Tokens after a whirlwind first six months of trading!
